Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1581 1/4 thaler
This specimen was lot 5410 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €550 (about US$766 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUMJ, Julius, 1568-1589. 1/4 Reichstaler 1581, Goslar. Lichtort. R Sehr schön +. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 20, Osnabrück 1991, Nr. 1983. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, Julius, 1568-89, quarter "light" thaler of 1581, Goslar mint. Rare, very fine or better.)"
This "light" quarter thaler or ort (referring to the lamp in the wild man's hand and not the weight) is noted for 1570-82.
