SB0123-41335r.jpg

This specimen was lot 41335 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Calenberg. 12 Mariengroschen, 1690. Zellerfeld Mint. Ernst August. PCGS MS-61. KM-259. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." The auctioneers attribute this to KM 259, which is a twelve mariengroschen with a bust obverse struck 1680-92. This type seems to be unlisted therein. Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg and Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle were traded back and forth between brothers until death left only one, who became the elector of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg-Hannover ("Hannover" for short) and later king of England.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM unlisted, Welter-1997.
