This specimen was lot 815 in Jean Elsen sale 159 (Brussels, June 2024), where it sold for €220 (about US$283 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRABANT, Duché, Philippe IV (1621-1665), AR escalin, 1623, Maastricht. D/ Lion deb. à g., ten. une épée et un écu ovale d'Autriche-Bourgogne. R/ Ecu couronné sur une croix de Bourgogne. Rare. Beau à Très Beau. (duchy of Brabant, Philip IV, 1621-65, silver escalin of 1623, Maastricht mint. Obverse: lion rampant left bearing a sword and the oval arms of Austria-Burgundy; reverse: crowned arms over a Burgundina cross. Rare, fine to very fine.)"

This type was struck at Antwerp (hand mintmark, KM 52.1), Maastricht (star mintmark, KM 52.2, shown here, struck 1624-32), Brussels (angel face mintmark, KM 52.3) and 's Hertogenbosch (tree mintmark, KM 52.4), as well as Arras, Tournai, Burgundy and Luxembourg. It was called a schelling in the north and was worth six stuivers. Common in low grade, it is very scarce choice.
