Künker Auction 441, lot 4709

This specimen was lot 4709 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €18,000 (about US$24,763 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Matthias, 1608-1612-1619. Reichstaler 1613, Prag. Münzmeister Benedikt Huebmer. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Kabinettstück. Scharf ausgeprägtes Exemplar mit herrlicher Patina, Stempelglanz. Aus der Sammlung Jürgen und Erika Schmidt, Bovenden. Exemplar der Auktion Meister & Sonntag 9, Stuttgart 2010, Nr. 899. (Holy Roman Empire, Matthias, 1612-19, thaler of 1613, Prague mint. Very rare in this quality, cabinet piece, sharply struck with superb patina, uncirculated.)"

Bohemian thalers for 1613 include KM 120/Dav-3069 (Kuttenberg), KM 161/Dav-3061 (shown here), KM 162/Dav-3071 (Kuttenberg) and KM 163/Dav-3068. This type was struck 1613-19 and is fairly common. This example realized 35 times the catalog value.
