Künker sale 406, lot 4477

This specimen was lot 4477 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €3,600 (about US$4,724 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Erzherzog Maximilian als Landesfürst von Tirol, 1612-1618. 1/4 Reichstaler 1613, Hall. Von großer Seltenheit. Feine Patina, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Austria, archduke Maximilian as land prince of Tyrol, 1612-18, quarter thaler of 1613, Hall mint. Extremely rare, fine patina, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This issue also comes in klippe format (KM 163). Both are scarce to rare. Archduke Maximilian III (1558-1618) ruled in Tyrol after 1595 and was briefly contender for the throne of Poland. His cousin, archduke Maximilian Ernst (1583-1616), was the younger brother of emperor Ferdinand III but never succeeded to any throne.
