Bohemia 1613 2 thaler Dav-3070
This specimen was lot 4136 in Sincona sale 34 (Zürich, October 2016), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Matthias, 1612-1619 Doppeltaler 1613. Kuttenberg Münzmeister Johann Sultys. Selten. Fast sehr schön. (Holy Roman Empire, Matthias, 1612-19, double thaler of 1613, Kuttenberg mint, mintmaster John Sultys. Rare, about very fine.)"
The Kuttenberg mint produced this type 1613-19 yet all dates are rare. The single thaler (Dav-3071) is much more available. Kuttenberg, now Kutná Hora, in Bohemia, was run by the Hapsburgs as a branch mint. The town was devastated during the Thirty Years War and the mines fell into ruin.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 57.52 g.
Catalog reference: Dav-3070; Dietiker 531. MzA p. 100, KM 166 (listed under Bohemia).
