Bern 1825 batzen KM-Pn22
This specimen was lot 4151 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 3,625 CHF (about US$5,258 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Bern, Stadt und Kanton, Batzen 1825, Bern. Probe in Billon. Gekröntes Kantonswappen in Lorbeerkranz. Rv. Konkordats-Kreuz, in der Umschrift, darunter die Jahreszahl. Glatter Rand. Sehr selten. Vorzüglich-FDC. (Switzerland, city and canton of Bern, batzen of 1825, Bern mint, pattern struck in billon. Obverse: crowned cantonal arms in laurel wreath; reverse: Concordat cross in legend, date below, plain edge. Very rare, About Uncirculated.)"
This pattern varies in several respects from the production issue of 1826, most notably in the shape of the shield and the absence of a quadrilobe around the cross. Another pattern of 1825 (KM Pn21) has a beaded circle around the cross.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 2.52 g, billon, 24.5 mm diameter, this specimen 1.74 g.
