This specimen was lot 4628 in Goldberg sale 84 (Los Angeles, January 2015), where it sold for $1,028.12. The catalog description[1] noted, "Switzerland: Bern. 5 Batzen, 1826. Bear in crowned oval shield. Brilliant mint luster. NGC graded MS-67." This is the last five batzen struck by the canton of Bern. It comes in several varieties (KM 196.1, 196.2, 196.3). Forty batzen made a thaler, so five batzen are one-eighth of a thaler. The last Bernese coin is a rappen dated 1836.
