This is the last five batzen struck by the canton of Bern. It comes in several varieties (KM 196.1, KM 196.2, KM 196.3). Forty batzen made a thaler, so five batzen are one-eighth of a thaler. The last Bernese coin is a rappen dated 1836.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
