Bern 1826 5 rappen KM-193
This specimen was lot 4191 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 180 CHF (about US$250 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Bern, Stadt und Kanton, Halbbatzen 1826, Bern. Ohne Perlkreis auf der Rückseite. Überprägt auf einen Halbbatzen von 1824. Selten. Vorzüglich-FDC. (Switzerland, canton of Bern, half batzen of 1826, Bern mint, without circle of pearls on the reverse, struck over a half batzen of 1824. Rare, Extremely Fine-Uncirculated.)"
The canton also struck one, 2½ and five batzen in 1826. The SCWC catalogs this as a five rappen, not a half batzen (ten rappen made a batzen). Another five rappen struck in 1826, KM 192, features a circle of pearls around the cantonal cross instead of the quadrilobe shown here.
Record mintage: unknown.
Specification: 1.8 g, billon, 24 mm diameter, this specimen 1.95 g.
