Bengal AH 1202(19) 1/4 mohur Fr-1530
This specimen was lot 497 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $2,722.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA, Colonial. British India. Bengal Presidency. 1651-1835. AV Quarter Mohur. Murshidabad (Calcutta) mint. Dually dated AH 1209 and RY 19 of Shah Alam II (AD 1787/8). In NGC encapsulation graded MS 65. Gem uncirculated with warm golden red surfaces. Purchased from James Elmen, April 1980." These were struck by the British East India Company at the Bengal Presidency (Calcutta) in the name of the Mughal emperor. Similar gold mohurs and their fractions were also struck in Madras and Bombay.
