This specimen was lot 750 in Ponterio sale 164 (New York, January 2012), where it sold for $1,610. The catalog description^[1] noted, "INDIA. Bengal Presidency. Mohur, AH 1204, Year 32 (1790). Shah Alam II (1759-1806). Sharp strike, clear date and year, light hairlines, lustrous. NGC UNC DETAILS, Surface Hairlines." The SCWC lists this type for AH 1199, year 17 to AH 1213, year 41. These were struck by the British East India Company at the Bengal Presidency (Calcutta) in the name of the Mughal emperor. Similar gold mohurs were also struck in Madras and Bombay.
