Jean Elsen sale 136, lot 1155

This specimen was lot 1155 in Jean Elsen sale 136 (Brussels, March 2018), where it sold for €145 (about US$213 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold Ier (1831-1865), Cu 1 centime, 1850. Fleur de Coin. (kingdom of Belgium, Leopold I, 1831-65, copper centime of 1850. Uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1832-41, 1844-50, 1855-63 at the Brussels mint in numerous varieties; despite the large mintage, this date is scarce in nice condition.

Recorded mintage: 2,309,000, a fairly common date.

Specification: 1.8 g, copper, 23 mm diameter.
