This specimen was lot 1406 in Jean Elsen sale 143 (Brussels, December 2019), where it sold for €900 (about US$1,175 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold Ier (1831-1865), AV 10 francs, 1850. Rare. Beau à Très Beau. (kingdom of Belgium, Leopold I, 1831-65, gold ten francs of 1850. Rare, Fine - Very Fine.)"
This rare type was struck 1849-50 only. A few struck for Leopold II in 1867 complete the series. We don't know why the weight is listed at 3.16 g instead of the 3.22 g noted for the French ten francs.
Recorded mintage: 63,000.
Specification: 3.16 g, 0.900 fine gold.
Catalog reference: KM 18, Dupriez 457; Fr-408.
