Belgium 1850 5 centimes
This specimen was lot 874 in Jean Elsen sale 138 (Brussels, September 2018), where it sold for €170 (about US$236 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold Ier (1831-1865), Cu 5 centimes, 1850. 0 étroit. BRAEMT F. avec point. Superbe. (kingdom of Belgium, Leopold I, 1831-65, copper five centimes of 1850, narrow '0', with dot on engraver's signature, extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1833-38, 1841-42, 1847-61. In 1861, the type was replaced with a copper-nickel five centimes of smaller diameter. The SCWC mentions round and tall "0" varieties but prices them the same.
Recorded mintage: 2,689,000, (a common date).
Specification: 9.8 g, bronze or copper, 28.3 mm diameter.
