Jean Elsen sale 138, lot 875

This specimen was lot 875 in Jean Elsen sale 138 (Brussels, September 2018), where it sold for €130 (about US$181 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold Ier (1831-1865), Cu 5 centimes, 1851. Petit 5. BRAEMT F. avec point. Superbe à Fleur de Coin. (kingdom of Belgium, Leopold I, 1831-65, copper five centimes of 1851, small '5', with dot on engraver's signature. Extremely Fine to uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1833-38, 1841-42, 1847-61. In 1861, the type was replaced with a copper-nickel five centimes of smaller diameter.

Recorded mintage: 2,381,000 (a common date).

Specification: 9.8 g, bronze or copper, 28.3 mm diameter.
