Jean Elsen sale 135, lot 1154

This specimen was lot 1154 in Jean Elsen sale 135 (Brussels, December 2017), where it sold for €280 (about US$388 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold Ier (1831-1865), Cu 2 centimes, 1852. Rare. Très Beau à Superbe. (kingdom of Belgium, Leopold I, 1831-65, copper two centimes of 1852. Rare, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1835-65, with the 1852 occurring with large and small dates.

Recorded mintage: 731,000, a fairly scarce date.

Specification: 3.6 g, copper.
