This specimen was lot 1496 in Jean Elsen sale 160 (Brussels, November 2024), where it sold for €500 (about US$633 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold Ier (1831-1865), Cu 1 centime, 1855. Très rare. Petites taches. Très Beau. (kingdom of Belgium, Leopold I, copper one centime of 1855. Very rare, minor stains, very fine.)"

This type was struck 1832-41, 1844-50, 1855-63 in substantial numbers yet many dates, including this one, are scarce. The 1862 is the most common date.

Recorded mintage: 2,428,000 for 1855-56.

Specification: 2 g, copper, 23 mm diameter, plain edge.
