This specimen was lot 1158 in Jean Elsen sale 135 (Brussels, December 2017), where it sold for €700 (about US$970 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold Ier (1831-1865), Cu 5 centimes, 1855. Petite date. Rare. Très Beau à Fleur de Coin. (kingdom of Belgium, Leopold I, 1831-65, copper five centimes of 1855, small date. Rare, extremely fine to uncirculated)"
This type was struck 1833-61, with the 1855 occurring with large and small 5. In 1861, the type was replaced with a copper-nickel five centimes of smaller diameter.
Recorded mintage: 265,000, a key date.
Specification: 9.8 g, bronze or copper, 28.3 mm diameter.
