This type was struck 1833-59 in several varieties. This specimen was lot 703 in Jean Elsen list 269 (Brussels, July-August 2014), where it was offered for €60 (about US$82). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold Ier (1831-1865), Cu 5 centimes, 1856, Tache au revers. Fleur de Coin (kingdom of Belgium, Leopold I (1831-65), copper five centimes of 1856. Spot on reverse, uncirculated.)"

In 1861, the type was replaced with a copper-nickel five centimes of smaller diameter.

Recorded mintage: 5,656,000 (a common date).

Specification: 9.8 g, bronze or copper, 28.3 mm diameter.
