This type was struck 1833-59 with French (KM 5.1) and Flemish (KM 5.1a) legends. The specimen shown has French legends and is a better date. In 1861, the type was replaced with a copper-nickel five centimes of smaller diameter.
Recorded mintage: 1,131,000 (both types).
Specification: 9.8 g, bronze or copper, 28.3 mm diameter.
