Jean Elsen sale 165, lot 1278

This specimen was lot 1278 in Jean Elsen sale 165 (Brussels, June 2026), where it sold for €220 (about US$303 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"AUTRICHE, Ferdinand Ier (1835-1848), AR Taler, 1848 A, Vienne. Petits coups. Patine irrégulière. Très Beau. (empire of Austria, Ferdinand I, 1835-48, silver thaler of 1848, Vienna mint. Minor nicks, irregular toning, Very Fine.)"

This type was struck 1837-48 at Vienna ("A") and Milan ("M") but is only scarce. Thalers were also struck for Francis Joseph in 1848 (Dav-15).

Recorded mintage: 119,000.

Specification: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver, 38.6 mm diameter, lettered edge.
