Künker sale 406, lot 4493

This specimen was lot 4493 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €1,800 (about US$2,362 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Ferdinand II. 1592-1618-1637. Doppelter Reichstaler 1626 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1625 geändert), Graz. Feine Patina, sehr schön. (Austria, Ferdinand II, 1618-37, double thaler of 1626, Graz mint, 1626/5 overdate. Fine patina, very fine.)"

Austrian double thalers for 1626 include KM 607/Dav-3107 (shown here), KM 609.2/Dav-3336, KM 639/Dav-3331, KM 640/Dav-3331A, KM 641/Dav-3332, KM 642/Dav-A3334, KM 643/Dav-3333, KM 644/Dav-A3334 and KM A644. All known examples of this date are the 1626/5 overdate. This type was also struck in 1625 and 1632 and accompanied a triple thaler (Dav-A3107). It is expensive but not rare like the others.
