reverse legend "COMES * TIROLI"

The first specimen was lot 3875 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 120 CHF (about US$144 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA, Erzherzog Leopold V. 1619-1632 Taler 1626. Hall. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Gestopftes Loch. (Holy Roman Empire, archduke Leopold V, 1619-32, thaler of 1626, Hall mint. Very fine-extremely fine. Plugged hole.)"

The second specimen was lot 45664 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $810. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. Holy Roman Empire. Taler, 1626. Hall Mint. Archduke Leopold V. NGC AU-58." This type was struck 1626-27 at Hall for the archduke Leopold, who never became emperor. It is among the more common thalers of the period. The second specimen was misattributed by the cataloguers as Dav-3338; that thaler has the Order of the Golden Fleece added to the reverse.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, the first specimen: 28.64 g.

Catalog reference: MT 460. Dav-3337, KM 629.1.
