Steve Album sale 55, lot 3085

This specimen was lot 3085 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $156. The catalog description[1] noted, "UKRAINE: Republic, AR 10 hryven, 1998, Princes of Ukraine Series - Danylo of Halych, struck at Ukrainian mint, Kyiv, Proof. The coin is dedicated to Danylo of Halych (1205-1264), the Duke of the Grand Duchy of Halytsien and Volynien." Daniel Romanovich (1201-66) was prince of Galicia and Volynia, grand prince of Kiev and king of Ruthenia at various times 1205-66. The Halych-Volynian state stretched over what is now Belarus and western Ukraine and was a vassal of the Mongols. This denomination was used for numerous commemoratives in 1998, including KM 44, KM 45, KM 50, KM 52, KM 53, KM 64 (shown here), KM 67, KM 70, all struck to the same module. The hryvnia was introduced in 1996 to supersede the karbovanets (1 hryvnia = 100,000 karbovanetsiv). Its sign is "₴". At present (June 2026), US$1 = 45.07 hryven.

Recorded mintage: 10,000, from the Kyiv mint.

Specifications: 33.63 g, 0.925 fine silver, 38.61 mm diameter, reeded edge.
