Steve Album sale 55, lot 3077

This specimen was lot 3077 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "UKRAINE: Republic, AR 20 hryven, 1997, Heroes of Cossack Age Series - Cossack Mamay, with COA of issue, Proof. The coin is the first one from the Heroes of Cossack Age series, presenting a gallery of characters of glorious sons of Ukraine and the most important events in the country's history of 16th-18th centuries. Cossack Mamay is one of the most widespread folklore heroes in Ukraine. He is encountered in legends, folk stories and proverbs. These became widely popular after the dissolution of the Zaporozhian Sich in 1775." The hryvnia was introduced in 1996 to supersede the karbovanets (1 hryvnia = 100,000 karbovantsiv). Four different twenty hryven (KM 36, 46, 54, 57) were issued in 1997.
