Steve Album sale 55, lot 3081

This specimen was lot 3081 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "UKRAINE: Republic, AR 10 hryven, 1998, Flora and Fauna of Ukraine Series - Askania-Nova Nature Reserve, struck at Ukrainian mint, Kyiv with COA of issue, Proof. The nature reserve was established in 1898 by Friedrich-Jacob Eduardovych Falz-Fein (1863–1920) around the German colony of Askania-Nova. In March 1919, Askania-Nova was confiscated from the Falz-Fein family by the Red Army as part of the state nationalization program. On April 1, 1919, Askania-Nova was declared a People's Sanctuary Park by a decree of the Council of People's Commissars of the Ukrainian SSR; on February 8, 1921, it was reorganized into a State Steppe Reserve of the Ukrainian SSR." This denomination was used for numerous commemoratives in 1998, including KM 44, KM 45, KM 50 (shown here), KM 52, KM 53, KM 64, KM 67, KM 70, all struck to the same module. The hryvnia was introduced in 1996 to supersede the karbovanets (1 hryvnia = 100,000 karbovantsiv). Its sign is "₴". At present (June 2026), US$1 = 45.07 hryven.

Recorded mintage: 10,000, from the Kyiv mint.

Specifications: 33.63 g, 0.925 fine silver, 38.61 mm diameter, reeded edge.
