Steve Album sale 55, lot 3093

This specimen was lot 3093 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "UKRAINE: Republic, AR 10 hryven, 1999, Flora and Fauna of Ukraine Series - Garden Dormouse, struck at the Ukrainian mint, Kyiv with COA of issue, Proof. The garden dormouse (Eliomys quercinus) is a species of dormouse native to Europe." The dormouse, once very common, has been declining as the warming climate disrupts its hibernation habits. This denomination was used for numerous commemoratives in 1999, including KM 77, KM 85, KM 86, KM 87, KM 88, KM 89 (shown here), KM 90, KM 116, KM 117 and KM 118, all struck to the same module. The hryvnia was introduced in 1996 to supersede the karbovanets (1 hryvnia = 100,000 karbovantsiv). Its sign is "₴". At present (June 2026), US$1 = 45.07 hryven.

Recorded mintage: 5,000, from the Kyiv mint.

Specifications: 33.63 g, 0.925 fine silver, 38.61 mm diameter, reeded edge.
