Künker sale 335, lot 3409

This specimen was lot 3409 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €3,800 (about US$4,973 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BAYERN, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1623 KURFÜRSTENTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH: Maximilian I. 1598-1651. Doppelter Reichstaler 1625, München. Mit dem Kurhut bedecktes, vierfeldiges Wappen mit Mittelschild, umher die Kette des Ordens vom Goldenen Vlies//Madonna mit Zepter in der Rechten und dem Kind auf dem linken Arm sitzt v. v. auf Mondsichel, umher Strahlenkranz. Feine Patina, kl. Schrötlingsfehler, vorzüglich. (Germany, electorate of Bavaria, Maximilian I, 1598-1651, double thaler of 1625, Munich mint. With the title of elector, quartered arms with central escutcheon and the chain of the Order of the Golden Fleece; reverse: Madonna and Child with scepter in a glory. Fine patina, some hairlines, extremely fine.)"

These early double thalers are rare.
