Künker sale 406, lot 4121

This specimen was lot 4121 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €1,500 (about US$1,968 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BAYERN, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1623 KURFÜRSTENTUM, Maximilian I. 1598-1651. Reichstaler 1627 (mit übergroßer 7, Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1626 geändert), München. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (electorate of Bavaria, Maximilian I, 1598-1651, thaler of 1627, Munich mint, 1627/6 overdate. Extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

Of the five different thalers struck in 1627, KM 209 was struck 1626-27. The reverse motto, "CLYPEVS OMNIBVS IN TE SPERANTIBVS", translates as, "The shield of everyone who hope in you".
