Künker sale 386, lot 5195

This specimen was lot 5195 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €200 (about US$259 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-CALENBERG-HANNOVER, AB 1692 KURFÜRSTENTUM HANNOVER, - als Georg I. König von Großbritannien, 1714-1727. 2/3 Taler (24 Mariengroschen) 1723, Zellerfeld. Feine Patina, fast vorzüglich. (electorate of Hannover, George I, king of Great Britain, 1714-27, George I, king of Great Britain, 1714-27, 2/3 thaler of 1723, Zellerfeld mint. Fine patina, about extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1722-27 and has a moderate catalog value. Other gulden for 1723 include KM 100 (bust obverse) and KM 148 (leaping stallion). The auctioneers catalogued this as a 2/3 thaler but we have filed it as 24 mariengroschen as that is what is marked on the coin.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 12.96 g, the weight of 4/9 thaler.

Catalog reference: KM 112.2, Dav-426; Welter 2241; Smith 36.
