Sincona sale 85, lot 1214

This specimen was lot 1214 in Sincona sale 85 (Zurich, October 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Sultan Ahmad Shah, 1327-1344 AH (1909-1925). 1/2 Toman 1333 AH (1914/1915 AD), Tehran Mint. Bust type. Saheb al-Zamam. Fr. -. Very rare. NGC AU58. From the Kian collection, auction SINCONA 49, October 2018, lot 223. Bought from Mesrob Abgarians Collection, Glendale, California, 1989. Finest certified by NGC."

Two distinct varieties exist for this date; open wreath and closed wreath (shown here). The closed wreath is listed in the SCWC for AH 1339-1340 but occurs on other dates as well, such as this one. This denomination was also struck in silver (KM 1058).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.44 g, 0.900 fine gold, 0.0416 troy oz AGW, 17 mm diameter, this specimen 1.38 g.
