This specimen was lot 407 in Goldberg sale 136 (Los Angeles, September 2023), where it sold for $920. The catalog description[1] noted, "Iran. 5000 Dinars (½ Toman), AH1332 (1913). Ahmed, 1909-1925. Bust with plumed hat. Reverse: Legend. PCGS graded MS-61." This type was struck AH 1331-1343 during the reign of Ahmad Shah (r. 1909-25), the last Qajar shah. He was officially overthrown in 1925 but had left Iran in 1923 for Europe, never to return.
Recorded mintage: unknown but a better date.
Specification: 1.44 g, 0.900 fine gold, 0.0416 troy oz AGW, 17 mm diameter.
