Heritage sale 3035, lot 31340

This specimen was lot 31340 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Republic gold 20 Pesos 1875 Ho-R AU53 NGC, Hermosillo mint. A tad softly struck but an unusually well preserved specimen of this fabled rarity, one of the key issues of this entire series: only limited wear appears on the higher points of the design, while the overall appearance remains most pleasant. Likely the 2nd finest specimen of this legendary issue, slightly behind the AU55 coin recently offered by us. From The FoxLair Collection." This type was struck at Hermosillo 1874-76 and 1888 and is a rare mint. There are no common gold coins from Hermosillo.
