from the Stack's Bowers 2018 ANA sale, lot 23277

This specimen was lot 23277 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Escudo, 1827/6-MoJM. Mexico City Mint. PCGS AU-58 Secure Holder. Bordering on Mint State with close inspection required to see the highpoint friction." The Mexico City mint produced one escudos 1825-27, 1830-34, 1841-50, 1856-63 and 1869. Most of its issues are classed as common. An 1827/6 overdate is reported.

Specification: 3.38 g, .875 fine gold, .095 troy oz AGW.
