Steve Album sale 39, lot 3842

This specimen was lot 3842 in Stephen Album sale 39 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO: Republic, AR 5 centavos, 1871-Go, PCGS graded MS64." Shown is an 1871MoC balance scale five centavos, of a type struck 1869-1897. This issue from Guanajuato is not rare, though it does not often appear so nice. The SCWC prices it about five times the common date. Other mints include Hermosillo, Culiacan, Durango, Zacatecas, Chihuahua, Mexico City, Guadalajara, Oaxaca, Alamos and Potosi.

Recorded Mintage: 100,000.

Specification: 1.35 g, .903 fine silver, .039 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM-398.5.
