from the Stack's Bowers 2018 ANA sale, lot 23323

This specimen was lot 23323 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Escudo, 1845-GoPM. Guanajuato Mint. PCGS AU-55 Secure Holder. Lightly circulated with attractive rosy tone around the legends. SCARCE first 1/2 Escudo date from this mint. Only 2 examples of this date have been graded by PCGS and NGC combined." The Guanajuato mint struck half escudos 1845, 1849-63 and is generally considered a slightly scarce mint.

Specification: 1.69 g, 0.875 fine gold, .049 troy oz AGW.
