This specimen was lot 687 in Jean Elsen list 269 (Brussels, July-August 2014), where it was offered for €3,000 (about US$4,081). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold Ier (1831-1865), AV 10 francs, 1849, Rare. Fines brisures du coin au revers. Fleur de Coin (kingdom of Belgium, Leopold I (1831-65), gold ten francs of 1849. Rare, small rim bump on the reverse, uncirculated.)"
This rare type was struck 1849-50 only. A few struck for Leopold II in 1867 complete the series. We don't know why the weight is listed at 3.16 g instead of the 3.22 g noted for the French ten francs.
Recorded mintage: 37,000.
Specification: 3.166 g, 0.900 fine gold, .091 troy oz AGW.
Catalog reference: KM 18, Dupriez, 403; Fr-408.
