Belgium 1849 5 francs
The first specimen was lot 1105 in Jean Elsen sale 110 (Brussels, September 2011) where it sold for € 220 (about US$355 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold Ier (1831-1865), AR 5 francs, 1849, Tête nue. Grand 9 dans la date. Fines brisures du coin de droit. Superbe à Fleur de Coin. (Kingdom of Belgium, Leopold I (1831-65), silver five francs of 1849. bare head, large '9' in the date. Fine die scratches on obverse, extremely fine to Uncirculated.)"
Two types of five francs are recorded for 1849: this type, the more common, was issued 1849-65 and KM 3.2, issued 1847-49.
