This specimen was lot 1283 in Jean Elsen sale 144 (Brussels, March 2020), where it sold for €250 (about US$330 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold Ier (1831-1865), AR 5 francs, 1848. Petits coups sur la tranche. Petites taches au revers. Superbe. (kingdom of Belgium, Leopold I, 1831-65, silver five francs of 1848. Minor edge nicks, Extremely Fine.)"
This type was struck 1847-49 and is scarce. It is more available, however, than the prior type (KM 3.1) of 1832-44, which had incuse edge lettering.
Recorded mintage: 2,518,000, a better date.
Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, raised lettered edge.
