Stephen Album sale 43, lot 1215

This specimen was lot 1215 in Stephen Album sale 43 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2022), where it sold for $510. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE: Louis XVI, 1754-1793, AE sol, Orleans mint, 1791-R, LUDOV XVI variety, an absolute blazer of a coin with bright pink-red luster contrasting against areas of blue-grey toning, one would be hard pressed to find a nicer example, NGC graded MS66 BN. The sole mint state example of this date and mint graded at NGC." This is a common date of a common type. The Orleans mint is listed for every year of 1782-91 tho many dates are scarce.

Recorded mintage: 3,943,000[2].

Specification: 12.24 g, copper, 28-31 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Benjamin Duvivier.
