Morton & Eden sale 104, lot 338

This specimen was lot 338 in Morton & Eden sale 104 (London, November 2019), where it sold for £550 (about US$852 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic, 1 real, Mexico City mint, 1825 JM, gem mint state and deeply toned, rare thus. Ex Pradeau Collection and Hendricks auction, lot 454." The Mexico City mint struck one reales 1825-33 and 1850-62. Many dates are common but this one is slightly better. Being the first year of issue, no overdates are known.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a slightly better date.

Specification: 3.38 g, 0.903 fine silver, 0.098 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 372.8.
