Hannover 1741-IBH 2/3 thaler

Stack's Bowers 2023 NYINC sale, lot 41367

This specimen was lot 41367 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $216. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 24 Mariengroschen (2/3 Taler), 1741-IBH. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg II August (George II of Great Britain). PCGS AU-58. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1730-43 and is fairly common. It is marked "24" on the reverse (for 24 mariengroschen) and "⅔" on the obverse, for two-thirds thaler, which is how it is catalogued in the SCWC. Other gulden for 1741 include KM 277 (leaping stallion obverse), KM 276 (bust obverse) and KM 228 (leaping stallion). St. Andrew does not seem to have appeared on this denomination.
