This specimen is from a series struck 1868-70 at the Chihuahua mint and 1863 at San Luis Potosi. This five centavos piece was superseded by the "standing eagle" type struck 1869-97. It, in turn, was replaced by a "slim eagle" five centavos piece (KM 400) in 1898. This specimen was lot 2272 in Goldberg sale 93 (Los Angeles, September 2016), where it sold for $270.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico. 5 Centavos, 1870-CA NGC MS65. Full original mint luster. Only 3 examples graded higher in the NGC census. NGC graded MS-65."

Specification: 1.35 g, .903 fine silver, 14 mm diameter, .039 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: 35,000.
