The first specimen was lot 6207 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $805. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "MEXICO. Chihuahua. 8 Reales, 1856 (5/4)-RG. Exceptional grade for the very scarce date. Slightly weak strike. BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED." The second specimen was lot 395 in Morton & Eden sale 104 (London, November 2019), where it sold for £1,600 (about US$2,478 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[2]</sup> noted, "Republic, 8 reales, Chihuahua mint, 1856 RG, 5 of date over 4,  (DP-Ca27), minor striking faults, about uncirculated, lightly toned." The Chihuahua mint struck eight reales 1831-95. Many of the early dates are rare but this one is still quite scarce. The SCWC lists no normal date but notes that the 1856/46 shown here is more available than the 1856/5.
