Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 72247

This specimen was lot 72247 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $1,037. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Real, 1833-Z OM. Zacatecas Mint. NGC MS-64. Only example graded by NGC. Colorful toning. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca and Real de Catorce did not strike this type. This specimen was struck at the Zacatecas mint in 1833, one of a type struck there 1826-63 and 1869. The larger denominations of this mint show the "Z^S" mintmark but this one uses a simple "Z". Assayer OM (Manuel Ochoa and Manuel Miner) is listed for 1831-56. The SCWC lists the 1833 as common, which it probably isn't.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.69 g, 0.903 fine silver, .049 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM-370.11.
