The first specimen was lot 11354 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $235. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Mexico City. Centavo, 1889-Mo. NGC MS-64 RB. Attractive with deep fiery red luster." This date is common in all grades.

Recorded mintage: 19,970,000.

Specification: 8 g, copper, 25 mm diameter, reeded edge.
