Heritage sale 3014, lot 31389
Mexico H3041-31389r.jpg

This specimen was lot 31389 in Heritage sale 3041 (Chicago, August 2015), where it sold for $4,465. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ferdinand VII gold 2 Escudos 1820 Mo-JJ AU58 NGC, Mexico City mint. A highly lustrous and most attractive coin, borderline Mint State with the slightest friction evidence on the higher points, comparatively few contact marks and superb reddish toning. A decidedly handsome representative of the type, rare and most desirable in this preservation. From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins." This scarce type was struck 1814-21 and is usually seen in VF-EF or lower. Jewelry damage is common.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.875 fine gold, .190 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Cayón-16276, KM 134, Calico-238.
