Mexico 1884/2-Do C 50 centavos

Shown is a balance scale fifty centavos, of a type struck 1869-1895. This issue from Durango is somewhat scarce, priced in the SCWC over double a common Guanajuato date. The SCWC mentions a regular date but does not price it, suggesting that the 1884/2 overdate comprises the majority of the issue, if not all of it. This specimen was lot 9174 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $184. The catalog description^[1] noted, “MEXICO. Durango. 50 Centavos, 1884/2-DoC. Several small scratches, lightly cleaned, sharply struck, attractive. ALMOST UNCIRCULATED.”

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW.
