Zug 1621 1/2 dicken

Sincona sale 98, lot 4586

This specimen was lot 4586 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 850 CHF (about US$1,233 including buyers' fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Zug, Stadt und Kanton, Halbdicken 1621, Zug. Variante mit kleiner Büste. Selten. Gutes sehr schön. Exemplar der Slg. Froidevaux, Auktion SINCONA 6, Zürich, Mai 2012, aus Los 2663. (Switzerland, city and canton of Zug, half dicken of 1621, Zug mint, variety with small bust. Rare, Good Very Fine.)"

A half dicken was twelve kreuzer or one-sixth of a thaler. This type is noted in the SCWC for 1620-21 and is listed as scarce. The figure on the obverse is St Oswald, a British king who converted the Northumbrians.
